Sam_from_The Riff I've been getting drunk on Andrew Bird lately (courtesy of the music on the Little Women mini-series) - this track seems to be in the same vein. As an Aussie this seems to me to be an expression of quintessentially American folk music. It's like an Emily Dickinson or Walt Whitman poem set to music (maybe it is?). Lovely.

lyrics

Bird, why do you sing?
Fate has clipped your wings.
Bird, why do you sing?
Fate has clipped your wings.

You make me feel like a bird in the sky
Fly ‘round and ‘round and I can’t fall down
You make me feel, make me feel so free
Like I just came awake, not afraid to be
